Meet Sherika Cowan
Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Hi! My name is Sherika Cowan. I'm a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse practitioner with 17 years total of nursing experience. I received my Masters Degree from Walden University in 2021. I believe in forming a personalized plan of care that values you and put your feelings first by use of evidence based practice, strong communication, and listening skills. My goal for you is to feel empowered and to treat you through supportive education and medication management in a nonjudgmental free environment. I carry an unconquerable passion for your mental health, and am eager to navigate and overcome your challenges with you. Let’s book your first appointment and start on your road to recovery.
My concentration is on the treatment of mood disorders, trauma, and chronic mental illness through psychiatric assessment, medication management, and brief psychotherapeutic intervention. **PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PRESCRIBE BENZODIAZEPINES INCLUDING XANAX, VALIUM, ATIVAN, KLONOPIN, ETC.**
In our first session together, I aim to build rapport by listening to your concerns and challenges through a comprehensive assessment. This will lead to an individualized care plan that is customized to you specifically to create a successful outcome for you, and to continue follow up visits while building a trustworthy healing environment.
My ability to understand and respond to your emotions is essential. Emotional intelligence allows me to create safe, trusting environments for you, and helping you to express your feelings more open and honestly while remaining stigma free. Displaying these strengths leads to positive outcomes while creating a safe environment for you to overcome your challenges. I understand the daily challenges you face, and rest assure I am here to help you.
