I have provided comprehensive care to patients, specializing in diagnosing and treating acute or chronic mental health conditions in this role. My responsibilities included conducting thorough psychiatric assessments, addressing physical health needs, and coordinating somatic referrals to specialists as necessary. Additionally, I played a key role in overseeing the clinical service delivery of the team, conducting medical and psychiatric evaluations, and managing medication assessments and monitoring. I also conducted mental health evaluations for both current patients and new intakes, recommended therapy when needed, and ensured the implementation of total nursing care for specific patient groups. Throughout, I ordered, performed, and interpreted laboratory and diagnostic tests to support accurate diagnoses and treatment plans, while also providing psychiatric evaluations and medication management for adult patients.

I Provided comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in an acute clinical setting, including but not limited to phlebotomy, IV insertion, and IV medication administration, pain management, postsurgical care, wound care, dialysis, ventilator care, tracheostomy and Foley insertion/ care, nephrostomy tubes, chest tubes, ostomies and blood transfusions administration. I delivered high-quality care to critically ill patients with diverse needs within a 42-person medical surgical department. Collaborated with a disciplinary team to determine treatment planning. Administered injectable psychotropic medications as well as oral drugs and monitored for adverse reactions of medications. Facilitated emotional support and adhered to state regulations and policies. Additional duties included crisis interventions, responding to violent situations, and using de-escalation techniques to manage behaviors. Assumed charged nurse duties.

In my role within the step-down unit, I served as the primary decision-maker for clinical operations, adapting staff assignments to accommodate fluctuating patient acuity and volume while ensuring the highest quality patient care. I meticulously documented patient assessment findings, addressing their physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural needs, and implemented individualized nursing care plans. Additionally, I conducted physical assessments, administered medications, performed NIH stroke scale evaluations, and facilitated patient admissions and transfers, advocating for acutely mentally ill patients with a wide range of issues, from psychosis to suicidal/homicidal ideation, to ensure their safety and well-being.
