Meet Ryan Short
Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Seeing Kids and Adults - Immediate Openings
I am a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner in Shawnee, KS. Although I took a long circuitous route in life before landing here, this helped shape my views of life, the universe, and everything and has provided a unique lens in how I see mental health. My core practice principles are compassion, collaboration, and honesty.
My background includes 6 years in the USMC Reserves, work as a carpenter, nightlife marketing management, all manner of retail and service jobs, many years driving trucks in the oil fields of Wyoming & North Dakota, & a 2700 mile hike on the Pacific Crest Trail.

My philosophy
My treatment philosophy is one of compassion for each unique individual patient, collaboration with the patient, and treatment of the whole patient not just a collection of symptoms. Life can be very difficult and none of us get through it on our own. Medications are not the answer for everything, however, in times of extreme stress, depression, emotional disturbances, etc. medications prescribed carefully and with a therapeutic connection can help provide the support you may need to get over a rough patch, catch your breath, and take steps toward living a more meaningful and fulfilling life. I work WITH my patients, taking into account their values and goals to come up with a treatment plan and implement it on whatever timeline makes the most sense for each unique individual patient.
